How do I apply for a
change of status?
Submit the following documents:
- Copy of passport.
- Copy of visa.
- Copy of I-94.
- Bank document from the student or a sponsor to show funds (If the funds are from a sponsor, the sponsor will need to complete and return the statement of support. If the sponsor is in the USA the sponsor will need to have the statement notarized.).
Pay the required school fees and deposit
Receive the letter of acceptance & I-20 from the school
Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee
Complete and submit the I-539 application to USCIS along with the required fees. We strongly encourage all applicants to consult an attorney for assistance with this step.

Yes. If you are currently in the United States under another valid visa, you may apply for a Change of Status to F-1. You do not need to leave the country, but you must remain in valid status until USCIS makes a decision.
Yes. After your admission to LANGUAGE ON, our Designated School Official (DSO) will issue you an I-20 that you will use to submit your Change of Status application to USCIS.
The process can take several months. USCIS processing times often range from 6 to 12 months, depending on their workload. During this time, you must keep your current visa status valid and you cannot start studying as an F-1 student until USCIS approves your Change of Status.
No. If you leave the U.S. while your application is pending, USCIS will consider your request abandoned. If you need to travel, you must apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country.
